From Planning to Action

Once you’ve assessed your financial health and identified your target percentages, it’s time to roll out the system.

In Profit First for Dentists, I share a straightforward 3-step plan that makes implementation simple and sustainable — even for busy dentists.

“Implementation doesn’t have to be overwhelming,”

“It’s about building small, consistent habits that create big results.”

Step 1: Assess

You’ve already taken this step by calculating your Current Allocation Percentages (CAPs) and defining your Target Allocation Percentages (TAPs).
This assessment is your roadmap — it tells you where you are and where you’re going. (Previous Blog Post)

Think of it as the “diagnosis” phase of your financial transformation.

Step 2: Allocate

Next, you’ll set up your Profit First bank accounts (more on that in the next blog post) and start making weekly allocations from your Income Account to your other accounts:

  • Profit

  • Owner’s Pay

  • Taxes

  • Operating Expenses

Start small — even 1% toward profit is progress.

“When you pay yourself first, you build confidence faster than any spreadsheet ever could.”

Step 3: Adjust

Implementation is a journey, not an event.
As your confidence grows, you’ll adjust your percentages gradually toward your TAPs.

Small, consistent adjustments create big change over time.
You’ll begin to notice more control, less chaos, and increasing predictability in your cash flow.

The Secret Ingredient: Consistency

The roll-out plan works because it’s behavior-based, not theory-based.
It uses your natural rhythms — how you already think and spend money — to build financial strength over time.

“Structure creates freedom,”

“When you have a plan and stick to it, you’ll finally experience peace with your money.”

Final Thought

Rolling out Profit First for Dentists is like building muscle — it starts small, feels awkward at first, and soon becomes second nature.

You’ll quickly discover that you’re not just running a dental practice — you’re running a healthy business.
